FAQs

Do I need to schedule a consultation first?

1

Yes. All new patients begin with a complimentary 15-minute consultation. During this call, we review your concerns and determine the best starting point for care.

If treatment is appropriate, your first appointment will be scheduled at that time.

Does acupuncture hurt?

2

Acupuncture is not meant to be painful, though it is not sensation-less. Patients may feel tingling, warmth, a brief ache, or a quick sensation that fades quickly. Some feel nothing at all.

Treatments are delivered with careful technique and attention to nervous system comfort. Many people find acupuncture for pain, stress, or hormonal balance deeply relaxing.

What if I’m afraid of needles?

3

That’s understandable. Acupuncture does not have to involve needles. Points can be stimulated using acupressure, moxibustion, or cupping.

As a trauma-informed practitioner, I provide options and explain each step before proceeding. Treatment is collaborative and paced according to your comfort level.

How does acupuncture work?

4

Acupuncture supports whole-body regulation. Research shows that stimulation of acupuncture points can increase circulation, influence immune function, and modulate pain signaling.

Clinically, acupuncture is commonly used for chronic pain, muscular tension, migraines, sinus congestion, fertility support, menstrual irregularities, and stress-related conditions.

What conditions do you commonly treat?

5

Patients often seek care for:

  • Acute and chronic pain

  • Neck, back, and joint tension

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Allergies and sinus congestion

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Insomnia and fatigue

  • Digestive concerns

  • Fertility and hormonal transitions

  • Perimenopause and menopause support

  • Recovery after illness or surgery

Treatment is individualized and guided by assessment.

Is your practice trauma-informed and weight-inclusive?

6

Yes. This is a consent-forward practice grounded in Health at Every Size principles. Your autonomy, body size, gender identity, and lived experience are respected at every stage of care.

The treatment table accommodates up to 800 pounds and can be adjusted with table extenders, larger bolsters, and positioning supports. A wedge is available for patients who prefer a more upright position.

Care is structured and never rushed.

What should I expect during my first visit?

7

Your initial visit includes a comprehensive intake and treatment. We review your health history, symptoms, and goals before beginning care.

You may undress to your comfort level, and appropriate draping is always provided.

Before your appointment:

  • Complete intake forms in the patient portal

  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing

  • Eat beforehand

  • Avoid brushing your tongue that day (tongue observation supports assessment)

How often will I need treatment?

8

Frequency depends on your presentation and goals. For acute pain or more complex concerns, visits may begin 1–3 times per week before tapering as symptoms improve.

Because acupuncture sessions build upon one another, consistency supports progress. Your treatment plan is reviewed and adjusted at structured intervals.

Do you offer cosmetic acupuncture and microneedling?

9

Yes. Services include cosmetic acupuncture, microneedling (collagen induction therapy), nanoneedling, and AcuGlow™ facial massage.

Microneedling is performed in a structured series to stimulate collagen production. Nanoneedling is a surface-level exfoliation treatment that supports brightness and includes LED light therapy.

A brief telehealth consultation is required prior to cosmetic services.

Do you accept insurance?

10

Courageous Heart Acupuncture is a self-pay practice and is out-of-network with all insurance providers.

If your health plan includes out-of-network acupuncture benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement directly from your insurance company.

To determine coverage, contact your insurer and ask:

  • Does my plan include out-of-network acupuncture benefits?

  • What percentage of the visit is reimbursed?

  • Is pre-authorization required?

  • Are specific diagnoses required for coverage? (Low back pain is commonly covered.)

  • Is there a deductible that must be met first?

An itemized receipt (superbill) can be provided after your visit for submission to your insurance company.

Is this the right fit for me?

11

This practice is intentionally paced. Appointments are not rushed, and care is delivered in a studio setting that balances warmth and clinical structure.

If you are seeking a high-volume, quick-fix experience, this may not be the right fit.

If you value thoughtful assessment, collaborative care, and an environment designed for comfort—including flexible positioning and weight-inclusive equipment—you may feel at home here.
